Investment Rationale
Young mothers—particularly those caring for children with disabilities—face severe and compounding economic barriers. Early motherhood, caregiving responsibilities, limited access to education, stigma, and exclusion from formal labor markets often trap families in cycles of poverty. Without targeted economic opportunities, these mothers are more vulnerable to unsafe work, exploitation, and long-term dependence, while their children face reduced access to healthcare, nutrition, and education.
Investing in the economic empowerment of young mothers generates high social and economic returns. When mothers have stable incomes and financial autonomy, household wellbeing improves, children’s developmental outcomes strengthen, and communities become more resilient. Inclusive livelihoods programming is especially critical for mothers of children with disabilities, whose caregiving demands and costs are often higher and overlooked by traditional economic programs.
AGO’s Approach
AGO designs flexible, inclusive, and market-relevant economic empowerment pathways that respond to the realities of young mothers’ lives.
Flexible Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training
We offer adaptable skills training aligned with local market demand, including vocational skills, micro-enterprise development, and digital or home-based livelihoods. Training schedules, locations, and delivery methods are designed to accommodate caregiving responsibilities and the needs of mothers raising children with disabilities.
Financial Literacy and Savings Groups
AGO equips young mothers with practical financial skills, including budgeting, savings, debt management, and business planning. Community-based savings and lending groups promote collective resilience, access to capital, and peer support—especially for women excluded from formal financial systems.
Inclusive Childcare and Parenting Support
We integrate inclusive childcare solutions and parenting education into economic programming, ensuring mothers can participate fully while strengthening early childhood development. Parenting support includes guidance on disability-inclusive caregiving, child nutrition, and psychosocial wellbeing.
Seed Capital and Mentorship Networks
Graduates of AGO programs gain access to seed capital, in-kind business assets, and mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs. Ongoing coaching and peer networks help women grow sustainable enterprises, navigate challenges, and build confidence as economic leaders.
