Investment Rationale
Girls and young women especially those with disabilities, young mothers, and survivors of trauma often face chronic stress, discrimination, social isolation, and limited access to mental health support. These challenges negatively impact learning, health, decision-making, and long-term wellbeing. Without intentional investment in social and emotional development, many young people struggle to build resilience, form healthy relationships, or fully participate in education and community life.
Investing in Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) strengthens the foundations for lifelong wellbeing. Evidence shows that SEL improves mental health, academic engagement, conflict resolution, and social inclusion—benefits that are particularly critical for marginalized and excluded populations.
AGO’s Approach
AGO integrates inclusive, trauma-informed SEL across its programming to support emotional resilience, self-worth, and social connection.
Structured SEL Curriculum
AGO delivers a structured, age-appropriate SEL curriculum that builds core competencies such as self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, communication, and problem-solving. Lessons are adapted using inclusive and participatory methods to ensure accessibility for girls with diverse abilities and learning needs.
Trauma-Informed Psychosocial Support
We provide trauma-informed psychosocial support through trained facilitators, counselors, and referral systems. Programming recognizes the impact of violence, neglect, stigma, and displacement, prioritizing safety, trust, choice, and empowerment in all interactions.
Peer Support Groups and Safe Spaces
AGO establishes peer support groups and safe spaces where girls and young women can connect, share experiences, and build solidarity. These spaces reduce isolation, foster belonging, and create opportunities for mentorship, leadership development, and collective problem-solving.
Caregiver and Family Engagement
We actively engage caregivers and families to strengthen supportive home environments. Through dialogue sessions, parenting support, and awareness-building, caregivers gain tools to support emotional wellbeing, positive communication, and inclusion—especially for girls with disabilities.
