Investment Rationale
Families and communities are the primary environments shaping children’s safety, development, and life outcomes. However, poverty, stigma, gender inequality, and limited access to information often undermine caregivers’ ability to support girls, adolescents, and children with disabilities. Caregivers especially those raising children with disabilities frequently experience isolation, stress, and exclusion from support systems, while harmful social norms can reinforce discrimination and violence.
Investing in family and community systems strengthens the foundation for sustainable change. When caregivers are equipped with knowledge, skills, and social support, and when communities actively promote inclusion and gender equality, gains across education, health, protection, and economic empowerment are more likely to endure.
AGO’s Approach
AGO works at the household and community levels to build supportive, inclusive environments that enable children and adolescents to thrive.
Parenting and Caregiver Education
AGO provides practical, culturally responsive parenting education that promotes positive caregiving, child development, disability inclusion, and non-violent discipline. Sessions equip caregivers with tools to support children’s learning, emotional wellbeing, health, and safety across all stages of development.
Engagement of Men and Boys
We actively engage men and boys as partners in gender equality, caregiving, and violence prevention. Through dialogue groups, mentorship, and community campaigns, AGO supports positive masculinity, shared caregiving responsibilities, and accountability for protecting girls and children from harm.
Support Groups for Caregivers of Children with Disabilities
AGO facilitates peer support groups for caregivers of children with disabilities, creating safe spaces to share experiences, access information, and reduce isolation. These groups strengthen coping strategies, mental wellbeing, advocacy skills, and connections to services and community resources.
