Investment Rationale
Adolescents, young mothers, and children with disabilities are disproportionately affected by climate-related shocks, natural disasters, and humanitarian crises. Disruption of education, health services, livelihoods, and social support systems during emergencies exacerbates vulnerabilities, undermines wellbeing, and deepens inequities. Without deliberate resilience-building, marginalized populations are less able to recover and adapt, limiting long-term development outcomes.
Investing in climate resilience and crisis preparedness ensures continuity of essential services, protects rights, and equips young people with knowledge, skills, and psychosocial support to navigate and respond to emergencies. These investments not only save lives but also strengthen communities’ capacity to withstand future shocks.
AGO’s Approach
AGO integrates resilience and preparedness across all program pillars, emphasizing inclusion, adaptability, and long-term sustainability.
Psychosocial Support During Emergencies
AGO provides trauma-informed psychosocial support for children, adolescents, and caregivers affected by crises. Safe spaces, counseling, and peer networks help mitigate stress, anxiety, and disruption to social-emotional development during and after emergencies.
Continuity of Education and SRHR Services
We implement strategies to maintain access to learning, skills development, and sexual and reproductive health services during crises. Flexible modalities—such as remote learning, community-based classes, and mobile health services—ensure that young people continue to acquire knowledge and access critical resources even in unstable conditions.
Climate Awareness for Adolescents
AGO equips adolescents with knowledge and practical skills on climate adaptation, environmental stewardship, and disaster risk reduction. By fostering climate awareness and resilience, young people become active agents in protecting their communities, advocating for sustainable practices, and preparing for future climate-related challenges.c
